Belle Gibson has today, for the third time, failed to show up at court.
She had been given until today to file a defence against the Consumer Affairs Victoria civil action against her in the Federal Court of Australia. This was after twice failing to appear in court at earlier hearings or file a defence to the action.
Now that Gibson has failed to show up at court a third time it seems clear that she has no intention of fighting the serious allegations that she faces.
As of now Consumer Affairs Victoria may seek to have Belle Gibson held in contempt of court, or even have the matter heard ex-parte – which means the whole case may simply just proceed without her.
After ignoring the last court appearance, Belle Gibson was photographed at Melbourne’s Ice Bar. She is pictured sharing a drink without any look of worry or concern that she may be facing hefty fines or other court imposed sanctions.
It was earlier this year that Consumer Affairs Victoria launched legal action against Belle Gibson. The alleged contraventions of Australian Consumer Law relate to false claims by Gibson and her company concerning her diagnosis with terminal brain cancer and her claims that natural remedies cured her.
Her lies about donations of proceeds to charities are also among the alleged breaches of the law.
After today’s non appearance by Belle Gibson things may just get worse for the cancer con woman.
