Belle Gibson has again ignored Federal Court proceeding brought against her by Consumer Affairs Victoria.
Belle Gibson fraudulently obtained over a million dollars by claiming that she had brain cancer and using those claims to support an App and companion Cookbook called The Whole Pantry. She also gave media appearances and interviews repeating her sham claims. Further, Belle Gibson lied about donating over $300,000 to charity and even held charity functions to raise money that was never passed on to charity.
In early 2015 Gibson admitted that she had never had cancer and admitted that “none of it is true”.
Consumer Affairs Victoria bought Federal Court action against Belle Gibson after a lengthy investigation.
Belle Gibson failed to appear at three seperate mentions of her case during the first half of 2016, however was photographed partying at Melbourne’s Ice Bar the same night she failed to appear at a last chance hearing provided to her by the Federal Court to give her a chance to respond to court proceedings.
Today’s hearing in the Federal Court is the fourth time Gibson has failed to appear in court to answer allegations she engaged in dishonest conduct.
According to the Herald Sun, Belle Gibson was hoping it would all go away if she didn’t respond to the court proceedings.
The hearing proceeds in her absence.
