Wellness ‘guru’ Belle Gibson faces massive fines of more than $1m over her claims she miraculously overcame brain cancer with natural remedies,
Following a 14-month investigation by the consumer watchdog, The Whole Pantry founder will be prosecuted for deceptive conduct.
In a statement Consumer Affairs Victoria said it was preparing to take legal action against Inkerman Road Nominees Pty Ltd, formerly known as Belle Gibson Pty Ltd, and its sole director Gibson after a long investigation.
The alleged contraventions of Australian Consumer Law relate to false claims by Gibson and her company concerning her diagnosis with terminal brain cancer and her claims that natural remedies cured her.
Her donations of proceeds to charities are also among the alleged breaches of the law.
